Beiyi is a bilingual filmmaker whose lyrical, meditative style makes the everyday mythic.
Born in Shengzhou, the birthplace of Yue opera, and raised on classical Chinese arts, she spent four years making film and television in Beijing before coming to Australia in 2023, living and working from the city to a remote island. She is completing a Master of Film and Television (Filmmaking) at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.

Her work bridges documentary and fiction, exploring identity, place and how people and environment form an inextricably linked tapestry. Shaped by her years as a newcomer, her films weave magical realism, Chinese folk tales and slow cinema into visions of loneliness, grief and connection, with delicate, sumptuous cinematography and tender performance.
